Carnival in search of Miss Herne Bay

The search for this year's Miss Herne Bay will continue tomorrow evening at the Kings Hall.(Saturday 23 April).

If you are over 15 you could become Miss H or one of her two Princesses.

The selection evening starting at 7.30pm will take place at The Kings Hall, East Cliff Parade.

The chosen three will represent the town at the yearly parade as well as participating in other Kent parades.

Miss H and her Princesses' will sit waving to the crowds on August 13th and will travel from Western Esplanade along the sea front, finishing in The Broadway.

Laura Warwick, singer-songwirter from Herne Bay is about to release her new single, Losing you, as well as the chance for other musicians to get involved in her new project.

I met with Laura a few days ago to chat about the single and how things were going.

What is Losing you about?

Laura - It was written in the early stages of what turned out to be a pretty nasty break up. It was the first time I've really used writing as a kind of therapy, writing about stuff in my life as it happens as opposed to stuff that has happened to me in the past. For the first time my raw emotions, the shock, the loss, the confusion were all captured. As my producer put it: 'It's raw feeling at it's best!'

How are the collaborations going?

They are going really well but I was hoping to have launched the Losing You project by now.

What is the Losing You project?

I'm giving producers, songwriters, singers, instrumentalists, DJs, pretty much anyone remotely musically inclined the chance to remix and rework the song into their own 'version', either as a remix, an edit or a duet. Unfortunately there's been a few delays and I haven't had the dry original vocals back from my producer yet. So I've pushed the idea 'behind the scenes' before the official launch. Every one of the people that I've collaborated with recently wants to do their own version, and a couple of new people have approached me too. I'm even doing a duet with an old work colleague, and an old school friend!

How and where do you write your music?

If I'm making my own music, I can sit for hours just tinkering on my keyboard in my studio! If it's lyric writing, I'll sit somewhere quiet with the backing track, play it over a few times and see what ideas I come up with. I've written songs on the train, in bed, and my new favourite place is at the bottom of my garden. That gets a bit rubbish when it's raining though.

More trains for royal wedding

Southeastern trains has announced that it will be running more trains to London for the royal wedding.

They will be operating a Saturday service on the Friday for people who want to see Prince William and Kate Middleton get married.

Two extra high speed services will start from Margate too.

Thousands of people are expected to travel to London for the big day. Spectators can watch it in Hyde park and Trafalgar square where giant tv screens will be broadcasting the events of the day.

Want to be treated like a queen? - Whitstable

Well if you are between 14 and 16 you could be!

The Whitstable Carnival organisers are looking for this years Miss Whitstable tomorrow (Sunday). The yearly parade takes place on August 6 and you could be one of the four people sat on the Whitstable parade float waving to the crowds.

The potential candidates will be interviewed by a panel of judges and could be picked to be either Miss Whitstable, deputy Queen or one of two princesses.

Those of you that are interested should go to Whitstable Castle on Tower Hill at 2pm.

Tesco fundraise for woman battling cancer

Staff at Tesco in Whitstable have been fundraising for a former staff member who is battling cancer.

So far they have raised £2500. The ex-employee wished to be anonymous but is ‘grateful’ for all the stores support.

The latest fundraising event was a night of music that took place on Sunday 27 March at The Marine Hotel, Tankerton. Tickets were sold for the event and approximately £500 was raised.

Staff have been fundraising for more than 5 weeks. Events have included lunch buffets and a raffle.

Part of the money has been used to buy a new wheelchair.
